exercise 9

Bankstown area is very multi-cultural as it is populated by people from different ethnic backgrounds such as those from Arab, Indian and Chinese descent. Many of these residents have newly migrated here which means they have difficulty communicating and understanding English language. The Bankstown Library fortunately has many services to help such people improve their written and spoken English language skills. For instance, there are regular English conversation classes in the library as well as online IELTS preparation courses. There is also a multi-cultural specialist in the library with who you can discuss things such as the culture of Australia, information regarding events and services offered at the library and so on. This is very beneficial for new migrants as it helps them to cope with the pressures of settling in a new environment and gives them a platform to meet and socialise with people of different backgrounds.
